Radiative Torques: Analytical Model and Basic Properties

We attempt to get a physical insight into grain alignment processes by studying basic properties of radiative torques (RATs). For this purpose we consider a simple toy model of a helical grain that reproduces well the basic features of RATs. The model grain consists of a spheroidal body with a mirror attached at an angle to it. Being very simple, the model allows analytical description of RATs ...

An Improved Analytical Superscalar Microprocessor Memory Model

As the number of transistors that can be integrated onto a single chip continues to increase exponentially, a growing challenge is modeling performance with reasonable accuracy in the early stages of processor design. While methodologies for execution driven simulations are well understood, comparatively little is known about how to develop accurate analytical models. Processor architects in in...

An Analytical Model of Temperature in Microprocessors

Temperature has become an important design constraint for high-performance microprocessors. Research on temperature-constrained microarchitecture requires an efficient modeling of temperature. We propose an analytical model of temperature, based on solving a boundary-value problem of heat conduction. The model gives steady-state and transient temperature at any point on the dissipating plane, a...

An Analytical Solution for Temperature Distribution and Thermal Strain of FGM Cylinders with Varying Thickness and Temperature-Dependent Properties Using Perturbation Technique

This research presents temperature distribution and thermal strain of functionally graded material cylinders with varying thickness and temperature-dependency properties that are subjected to heat fluxes in their inner and outer layers. The heterogeneous distribution of properties is modeled as a power function. Using first-order temperature theory and the energy method, governing equations are...

An Improved Analytical Model for IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function under Finite Load

In this paper, an improved analytical model for IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF) under finite load is proposed by closely following the specifications given in IEEE 802.11 standard. The model is investigated in terms of channel throughput under perfect and slow Rayleigh fading channels. It is shown that the proposed model gives better insight into the operation of DCF.
